I just posted on LinkedIn for the first time in a while.
It was something I had been wanting to do. What triggered the action was that my vision for life supersedes the fears I have.
However, I still found myself taking a walk after I posted it to center myself.
We are humans that want to keep progressing. What does it look like to stay on the horse or even shorten the time between getting knocked off and hopping back on?
The conclusion I'm coming to is: a reminder.
A reminder of who I am and why I do the things that I do.
That's a big statement but stay with me. I will share how you can start doing it too.
My life coach has often said that one of, if not the most valuable thing he has ever done is write down who he is.
I'll ask him a question about something I should do and he'll mention, "You know, it helps to know who you are first."
If I'm being honest, when I first heard that, in my mind I was like, you've got to be f*****g kidding me. Of course it helps to know who you are.
But why is it so valuable to remind yourself of who you are?
It's because we can forget who we are.
We start calling ourselves losers, failures, unloved, or not good enough.
We listen to the thing someone said at work, online, or one of our friends—or even our own thoughts.
It's in the moments when you're allowing yourself to be seen and going after this life that reminding yourself of the gift of a human you are is most needed.
I feel my mind forgetting often as I share something new, or talk to a new client and it doesn't go how I wanted, or things don't work out in a relationship, or I don't know where life is taking me.
It would be great to have something to remind me.
If there was something to remind us of who we are that we wrote down and can look at, I wonder how quickly we'd snap back into who we REALLY are.
This is the first time I'm seeing how powerful reminding myself of who I am can change my life because I'm consistently going towards that which scares me and getting knocked off my horse from time to time.
I will tell you now, and maybe you needed this reminder: you are a ball of light and love that is here to experience all this magnificent life has to offer.
What a gift and miracle you are to be on this earth. Deep love to everyone showing up for this life.
You are loved.
I'll speak for myself, but writing down ‘who I am’ sounded a bit daunting.
Up to this point, I've used walks and music as my reminder of who I am because of the frequency of those things. Now I'm up-leveling those reminders as I continue to up-level myself.
I had a thought: if I start writing them down, then I may figure out that I don't actually know who I am… and then what?
Then the work begins.
The marvelous back and forth between you and you.
I have a strong belief that in the courage of learning more about yourself, there is gold for all.
Where? I'm not sure, but it's there and I’ll find it.
Here’s an exercise that I’m trying:
If you find yourself giving it your all at work, in your relationships, wealth, and health but can get exhausted and wonder why you do what you do, write three 'I am' statements down on a piece of paper.
There is no framework on how these need to look.
The purpose is that it reminds us that below all of the things happening around us, we are so much more. As a result, we show up even more for life.
You can start with "I am…" or "I am that…"
I am a creator of possibility for all.
I am that being seen is how I connect with the world.
I am love.
I am that I love and serve the human being in front of me.
If more than three come up, amazing! Keep writing!
If the things that come up are not desirable, then be curious about where they come from. Let them know you see them but right now you are doing something else. Then, return to the 'I am.'
When you have three, you can revisit them whenever you want.
In the morning, at night, when you get to a meeting, with friends, on your own, or after something bad happens.
I'm going to be doing a course that takes me through it and would be happy to walk you through it if you reply to this email.
I'm curious what impact that will have on the change of your state.
This is new to me, but I continue to be guided in this direction so I'm trusting it
I’m in this photo that was taken by a stranger who I'd later meet and they sent it to me.
When you're ready to create what's next, here are my invitations:
